There is a new camp experience at Highland specifically for campers aged 15-18, Navigators Camp. Navigators will have a similar schedule to our Resident Camps, enjoying many familiar camp activities: swimming, adventure programming, hiking, cooking over fires, late night activities, etc. However, the overall camp size will be much smaller and include activity blocks that are geared toward developing Christian leadership tools, strengthening personal faith, and cultivating healthy group dynamics. We are blessed to have the support of a volunteer couple who are helping us develop the new curriculum.

We hope that Navigators Camp will help form the participants and serve as a bridge between camper and staff experiences. Serving on staff continues to be a formative experience for those who make that choice!
“…I loved counseling as much as I thought I would. I loved being in a place where I could develop my passions like playing violin, teaching kids about Jesus, and learning more about nature.”
Here are three very different ways to serve:
- Leaders in Training (LIT’s) choose from four weeks throughout the summer when they can serve in the summer youth program and earn a modest wage. The program is open to ages 16-18 who apply and attend both a Navigators week and a day-long training event.
- Summer Staff are the backbone of our summer camping ministry to campers and guests. Paid ministry positions, for ages 17 and up, include counselors, kitchen staff, leadership staff, lifeguards, programming staff, and more.
- Year-round paid ministry internships, for ages 20 and up, are available at Highland Retreat working through VMMissions. Interns raise a portion of their salary before training and serving at both Highland and within the surrounding community.
Recommend serving on Highland’s staff team to someone you know!
