Mennonite Jr. High Retreat

October 28-29, 2022

Join Jr. High groups from area Mennonite churches for two days of worship and fun! Experience great games and camp activities, enjoy time with friends, and more!

Lodging will be in rustic cabins. Cabin assignments will keep youth groups together (by gender), and two adults will be assigned to each cabin. Cabins are not climate-controlled, so pack for the weather.

Registration and payment for the retreat is to be done through your church group, not on an individual basis. Contact your youth leaders to find out what your church is doing.

Friday

5:00-6:00 — Arrive and settle in
6:00-7:00 — Supper & ice breakers
7:00-8:00 — Worship session
8:00-9:00 — Activities
9:00-10:00 — Night games
10:00-10:15 — Snack
10:30 — Head to cabins for lights out

Saturday

7:00-8:00 — Free time, games for early risers
8:00-8:45 — Breakfast
9:00-10:00 — Worship session
10:15-11:45 — Games
12:00-1:00 — Lunch
1:00-2:00 — Wrap-up activities

2022 Menu

Note: Gluten-free, dairy-free, and/or vegetarian options that Highland can provide are noted in parentheses below. Please make sure to let us know in advance if you will need these alternatives. For those with other allergies or specific food needs, our kitchen staff will store and prepare any special food items you provide. All food provided by Highland will be peanut-free.

  • Friday supper: Pizza (gluten-free: corn tortilla crust; dairy-free: cheeseless pizza), chips, fresh veggies, applesauce, cookies
  • Saturday breakfast: Eggs, bacon, sausage (vegetarian sausage), hash browns, fruit, biscuits, cereal (gluten-free: Cheerios) & milk (dairy-free: oat milk)
  • Saturday lunch: Hamburgers (vegetarian: black bean burgers), fries, tossed salad, brownies

Packing list

  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • A change of clothes (appropriate for the weather)
  • Jacket or sweatshirt
  • Sneakers and socks
  • Warm clothes to sleep in (the cabins get chilly overnight)
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Flashlight

Info for leaders

Leaders from each church group are expected to:

  • Complete the registration form for your group (below) by October 3 to let us know your church is participating.
  • Send Highland a $200 deposit and a group roster before October 18Your group’s numbers are considered final after October 24.
  • Collect completed information and consent forms from your youth.
  • Collect medical forms from your youth and look after any health needs during the retreat. (Here’s a sample form you can use if your church doesn’t have their own.)
  • Bring enough sponsors so that youth of each gender are well supervised. Feel free to collaborate with other church groups!
  • Pay the balance for your group at the time of the retreat (a total of $50 per person covers food, lodging, and activities). To streamline the process of paying during check-in at Highland, we request that each church group presents ONE final payment to Highland for the balance of their retreat bill; any payments you collect from individuals in your group should go to your church or to a group representative who can then pass the total along in a lump sum to Highland.
