Anyone interested in a guided birdwatching walk should gather at the Tabernacle at 9:00am. Participants will be led by an experienced local birder as they stroll the Highland grounds, mostly in the lower camp area, with stops to observe the local birds. Bring binoculars and/or a favorite bird identification guide, if you have one. Plan on the birdwatching session taking 2 to 2.5 hours.

Lunch will be served from 11:30am to 12:45pm. Note: We will start cleaning up the food lines shortly after 12:45, so please try to arrive at the Tabernacle by 12:20 to allow enough time to get your food.

The menu will include:

• Burgers (Angus beef or vegetarian) and hot dogs
• Picnic sides, such as potato salad, chips, watermelon
• Pies and other desserts

The meal and all activities are by donation. You will be able to drop off donations (cash or check) as you enter the Tabernacle to get your lunch; for other donation methods, visit the activity tent in the afternoon. All donations will support the ministry of Highland Summer Camps.

The Walking Roots Band will begin playing music on a stage platform beside the Tabernacle around 12:30pm. Their concert will be fun for all ages!

If you are unfamiliar with The Walking Roots Band, they are a local music group that describes their style as acoustic, Americana, folksy, blue-ishgrassy, roots music. The band is also closely involved in The Soil and The Seed Project, and may perform some songs they wrote for the purpose of nurturing faith through music, art, and 'little liturgies' in the home.

Drop by Sassafras Pavilion anytime between 1:00 and 4:00 for the Summer Camp open house! This will include:

• Meet our Program Director and some of our summer staff
• Get a guided tour from summer staff
• Play kid-friendly games in the pavilion
• Enjoy a free ice cream treat (or dairy-free Italian ice)

A variety of activities will be available from 2:00 to about 4:00pm. Activities will include:

• Informal picnic-style games, like cornhole and spike ball, that anyone can enjoy
• A duck race at the stream (Wear clothes that can get wet if you want to walk in the water and splash any ducks that get stuck!)
• Hikes, including the perimeter trail loop and a special duck hunt hike for children
• Play a round on our disc golf course
• Stop by the nature center for a stream study activity
• Head to the Upper Highland Campground to check out the new bathhouse
