Online Auction FAQs

Registering to bid – Before you place a bid on any item, you must register to bid. A reminder link will appear on every page until you do so! The online registration form will collect your contact information, assign you a bidder number, and give you the option to enter your credit card details (your card info will not be used unless you make an online purchase, or if you choose to pay by credit card for your purchases at the live event). If you also come to the live event, you will be given a bidder card with the same bidder number you were assigned online – AND you will receive a free donut!

Auctria app – If you are browsing items or placing online bids on a mobile device, you may want to use the (free) Auctria app for a smoother experience. You will have to register as a bidder on Highland’s Auctria website in order for Highland’s auction to show up in the app.

Bidding online – You may bid on ANY item, whether it is listed in the online auction, the silent auction, or the live auction. But please note that while you are bidding to win online auction items, the bids on the silent and live auction items are considered “pre-bids” – those items will also be offered at the live event, where someone may bid higher than the highest online bid. Additional details below.

Automatic proxy bids – Some items will offer the option for you to place an “Automatic proxy bid” where you enter the highest amount you are willing to pay for the item, and the system bids for you up to that amount. (For example, you may choose the proxy bid option and enter a $100 bid for an item with a current bid of $50 and a $5 bid increment. You’ll be recorded as bidding $55 right away, because that’s the next highest bid needed, but if someone bids $75 later, your bid will automatically increase to $80, and so on until your max bid has been reached.) If you have placed a proxy bid on a live auction item, one of our staff will bid for you up to your max bid – so if you attend the live auction, make sure you are not bidding against your own proxy bid!

Buy it now prices – Most online auction items and some silent auction items have a “Buy it now” option, if you want to simply purchase an item without worrying about being outbid. This price is typically more than the value of the item, and includes an additional donation amount (usually specified in the item description).

Donation items – All donations, for camp scholarships or otherwise, function as “Buy it now” items. You can choose to give a donation of any amount at any time.

Online auction items – The current high bid for each online auction item will be displayed online, and if you are signed in as a bidder, you will also see the next possible bid amount below the box where you can enter your own bid. If no one chooses the “Buy it now” option, the bidder with the highest bid on the item at 10pm* on March 6 will win the item. The winner bidders should pick up their items at the live event on March 7, or contact the Highland office to make other arrangements. *Note: In order to make the auction fair, if a bid is placed just before the auction closes, the closing time on that item will be extended 10 minutes to give the previous bidder a chance to increase their bid if they wish. The bidding for that item will not close until no new bids have been placed during the last 10 minutes of extended auction time.

Silent auction items – The current high bid for each silent auction item will be displayed online, and if you are signed in as a bidder, you will also see the next possible bid amount below the box where you can enter your own bid. If no one chooses the “Buy it now” option, the highest bid on the item at 10pm on March 6 will be listed as the starting bid at the event on March 7. Additional bidders may choose to bid on the item in person until the silent auction closes, at which time the highest bid wins.

Live auction items – The current high bid for each live auction item will be displayed online, and if you are signed in as a bidder, you will also see the next possible bid amount below the box where you can enter your own bid. The highest bid on the item at 10pm on March 6 will become the starting bid at the live event on March 7. Additional bidders may choose to bid on the item in person during the live auction, at which time the highest bid wins.
