2021 Family Camps

This year, Highland is offering a special family camp and three family weekends in addition to regular summer camps! Enjoy time away from your house, or join together with another family or two and spend some time together at Highland with friends you haven’t seen in a while. Choose one of two different types of camp experience:

  • Family Camp consists of a complete package of lodging, meals, and programming that includes campfire times with a guest speaker.
  • Family Weekends will have programming and meal options available and offer the flexibility for you to design your own camp getaway.

Family Weekends

  • Family Weekend 1, May 28-30 (Memorial Day weekend)
  • Family Weekend 2, cancelled due to low enrollment
  • Family Weekend 3, cancelled due to low enrollment

The weekend experience is designed to last from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Families are also welcome to extend their stay beyond the weekend if the lodging is available.

Family Weekend Programming

Families will be able to select from a variety of camp activities and programming options, including:

  • Pond/Stream Study
  • Guided hikes (most likely to Tiger Rocks)
  • Swimming at the pool
  • Birdhouse Breakout activity
  • Climbing tower
  • Family worship service

Most of the programming will take place on Saturday morning and afternoon, though the exact schedule may vary on each weekend. (View a sample schedule.) A programming fee of $12 per person (ages 5+) will cover all programming for the weekend. Discounts are available for families with 5 or more people.

Family Weekend Meals

A meals package is available for $28 (ages 13+) or $22 (under 13). Included in the package are:

  • Saturday breakfast box (all supplies and ingredients for a campfire breakfast)
  • Saturday bag lunch (wraps, sides, and drinks packed to go)
  • Sunday prepared brunch (served hot from the summer kitchen)
  • S’mores ingredients (pre-bagged) that can be enjoyed any time

Consult the menu for more details on what the meals will include. Note that we can easily accommodate vegetarian and gluten-free diets, as long as you let us know you need them when you sign up for the meals. We may also be able to help with other dietary restrictions; feel free to inquire when you register.

Additionally, Highland’s snack shop and grill will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings. Available options will include items that can serve as your meal (hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, pizza, etc.) as well as snacks and desserts; view the full Grill menu here. (Grill costs are not included in the meals package. You may pre-purchase Grill vouchers at a slight discount, or pay full price with cash or card at the Grill.)

Family Camp

  • cancelled due to low enrollment

The Family Camp experience begins on Thursday evening and lasts until Sunday mid-morning.

Family Camp programming is likely to include nature studies, crafts, hikes, and adventure programming, as well as campfire times with a guest speaker on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday morning. Specific details will be available about a month in advance.

The weekend package includes 7 meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday and Saturday, and a Sunday brunch. Highland’s snack shop and grill will also be open each evening for those interested in purchasing additional treats or a Thursday evening meal; view the full Grill menu here. Weather permitting, breakfasts will be cooked over campfires! Our staff will pack breakfast boxes with everything you need, which families can take back to their own campfire to cook and eat. All supplies and equipment will be provided, and staff will be available to help with fire building if needed.

All other meals will be served from the summer kitchen. Our staff will safely plate each person’s meal, which you can enjoy at your assigned table on the kitchen deck. If the mornings are too wet for campfires, breakfasts will be served from the kitchen deck in this same manner.

The per-person Family Camp pricing (see chart below) includes:

  • Three nights in the lodging of your choice
  • A programming fee that covers all the Family Camp activities
  • 7 meals (Friday and Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Sunday brunch)
