When the opportunity arose to purchase the clinic property across the street, the Highland board did not want the pool renovations and improvements to be overlooked. Since 2013, we have made steady progress towards completing the first stage:
- Installation of a pool lift in June of 2013
- Replacement of pool pumps in June, 2013.
- Resurfacing the pool in October, 2013.
- Purchase of a custom pool cover in August, 2014.
As of July, those projects are behind us and they are paid for in full! Now we set our hopes on completing the next steps of the Highland Pool renovation in time for next summer. We hope to extend the boys bathhouse by 13 feet to allow for three showers with adequate changing space, and add a storage closet for pool equipment. In addition, there is vision for adding accessible showers and a family bathroom off the breezeway deck, replacing commodes and partitions, improving lighting, and more.
As the most widely used amenity at Highland, the pool and bathhouses are central in both camper and guest experiences each summer. While we may not get to the final stages (shade structures, splash pad, etc.), the current stage of the vision addresses issues that will allow the pool area to be safer, more accessible, and used and enjoyed for years to come.
